Getting There

New Caledonia is well connected by air, with direct flights from Australia, New Zealand, and other Pacific islands. From Sydney, it’s a two-and-a-half-hour flight covering approximately 1,970 km to NoumĂ©a, while flights from Auckland take around three hours, covering 1,800 km. Brisbane also offers direct flights to NoumĂ©a, with a flight time of just over two hours. The main airline servicing these routes is Aircalin (Air CalĂ©donie International), which operates regular flights from Sydney, Brisbane, and Auckland, often in partnership with Qantas and Air New Zealand.

While air travel is the most common way to reach New Caledonia, the islands are also a popular stop for private yachts and sailboats, as well as for cruise ships travelling through the South Pacific. Travellers interested in cruising can check with local cruise operators or travel agents for available itineraries that include New Caledonia as a destination.
